It’s time to celebrate Easter and arrival of spring with lots of beautiful Easter 2016 stamps.

Easter also called Pasch or Resurrection Sunday, is pre-eminent among high days and holidays as it both welcomes the arrival of spring and is the celebration of the resurrection of Christ in the Christian world.

It is typically the most well-attended Sunday service of the year for Christian churches. It is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.

Christians believe, according to Scripture, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross.

As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter.

In Western Christianity, Easter Sunday can fall anywhere between March 22 and April 25. Easter is a movable feast, always celebrated on the Sunday immediately following the Paschal Full Moon.

In 2016, Easter Sunday falls on March 27, and the previous Monday, March 21, is the start of the traditional fortnight off.

The Christian holiday of Easter, which commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, has been associated with a lot of customs related to the arrival of spring. They originate in the times when the Slavic ancestors of Slovaks were not yet Christians and they worshipped nature.

The power of awakening nature was supposed to be transferred to man through whipping with fresh twigs. The egg was a universal symbol of the renewal of life.

The egg is still present in the Easter holiday in the form of egg dishes and decorated eggs – Easter eggs. Puppies – bunnies, goslings and chicks – these are also symbols of the awakening of nature.

Weaving of Easter decorations and pictures with Easter motifs is mostly inspired by Slovak traditional laces which are uniquely colourful.

Easter Sunday – Serbia

Easter 2016 stamps Serbia

Easter Sunday is the date of the annual celebration of Christ’s resurrection. The Orthodox Church celebrates the Easter on the basis of the Julian calendar. The date is not fixed, but denotes the same season of the year and the same relationship to the preceding astronomical full moon that occurred at the time of His resurrection in 30 A.D.

Easter is one of the most important Christian holidays. This is a day of eternal joy, the day when Christ, the Son of God, conquered the death. By the act of resurrection Jesus Christ proved his divine power and opened the gate of eternal life, joy and happiness that we can find in our faith.

There are many customs connected with Easter Sunday, and certainly one of them that children like best, is colouring and offering of eggs. The first egg is coloured red and in many parts of our country it is called “The house keeper” and is kept for the whole year, until the next Easter.

Easter Bunny 2016 – Croatia

Easter 2016 stamp Croatia

The bunny on this year’s Easter stamp of Croatian Post, with its lovely head and masterful stylisation can provoke smile in anyone, which is also its intention.

And then, he does creative work: he has just finished painting green an egg, adding small sunny spots to it – all that is needed so that we might feel joy from the soil beneath our feet upwards and that we might – together with the nature – become green up to our ears.

Easter implies the dimensions of suffering and death and just by their turning into bridge leading to Father’s home every joy acquires its legitimacy and its meaning.

Bunny, that small and timid animal to whom his antennas are his only weapon, is the symbol of that joy, of the victory over death, of that renovated and always renewable world.

In which bush does the bunny hide? When the grass becomes green, like in old school readers, and when the catkins develop their soft furs and the catkins hang down along young branches, the tops of the pricked rabbit’s ears and a small tail which would like to sunbathe protrude below many bushes and many tufts.

This is how once spring used to come and also today – despite all climatic change – it is still how we are used to expect it and to look for it. Our dear God did not make world just that it be deadly serious and respect only great themes.

Polish post issued three Easter 2016 stamps featuring beautifully decorated Easter eggs. Easter eggs are decorated eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or springtime.

Although eggs, in general, were a traditional symbol of fertility and rebirth, in Christianity, for the celebration of Eastertide, Easter eggs symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus.

The oldest tradition is to use dyed and painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as chocolate.

Celebrating Easter 2016 – Hungary

In keeping with its traditions, Magyar Posta is celebrating Easter by issuing a definitive postage stamp. At the centre of the spring-welcoming, trailing floral, calligraphic design of the stamp is the Hungarian word for Easter “Husvet”.

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds laid their clothes and palm branches on the ground to welcome the Saviour, and today in Hungarian churches branches of pussy willow are blessed in remembrance of this.

The lambis another ancient symbol of Easter whose origin is also to be found in the Bible. Yet the Easter lamb is closely associated with the awakening of nature as this is the lambing season bringing new life to the world. When Lent ends, winter also comes to a close, thus Easter is also a celebration of the rebirth of nature.
